Birmingham Firm “Going Back to School”
Burr & Forman takes Cornerstone Schools’ students on Mercedes-Benz plant tour to kick off “Legal Eagles”
Burr & Forman LLP announced recently that it has kicked off a new educational, community service program called "Legal Eagles" with the Cornerstone Schools of Alabama.
In November, the firm took 16 Cornerstone eighth-grade students on a tour of Alabama's local Mercedes-Benz manufacturing plant. Continuing a day of education about business and the legal industry, several eighth-grade students attended the Magic City Bar Association/Birmingham Bar Association reception that evening. More events are planned for this year.
The law firm as educational partner
"We are blessed to have Burr & Forman as our educational partner for the eighth-grade students of Cornerstone Schools of Alabama. Through the newly-developed 'Legal Eagles' program, the attorneys provide our students with knowledge of the country's Constitution, our government and the various areas of law. It gives the students the opportunity to apply their understanding through real-life situations, cases and scenarios that lawyers encounter," stated Cornerstone School Assistant Principal Beth Scott.
Enriching the lives of children
Managing partner Lee Thuston said, "Burr & Forman is committed to enriching and encouraging the lives of children in our community. We believe that by introducing these students to legal and business principles, we will facilitate an understanding of the importance of law and governance in our society," said.
Cornerstone Schools of Alabama, founded in 1993 in the Woodlawn area of Birmingham, enrolls approximately 220 children from across the city and offers a supportive environment focused on student achievement.
