Montgomery, July 30, 2003 - Alabama State Bar President William N. Clark of Birmingham has announced the publication of a free informational brochure to assist Alabama citizens in making an informed decision in the upcoming September 9th referendum.

"Alabama lawyers have an important role in helping the public understand such a significant proposal for change of our tax laws," Clark said. "The objective of the brochure is to encourage citizens to become informed and vote on September 9th regardless of how each chooses to vote."

According to Keith Norman, executive director, "The Mission Statement of the Alabama State Bar reads in part, 'The Alabama State Bar is dedicated to… increasing the public understanding of… the law.' " With this in mind, he emphasized that "our state bar feels a strong commitment to provide information and resources to the public as each Alabamian prepares to vote September 9th on Governor Riley's Accountability and Tax Reform Plan."

The Alabama State Bar Web site at www.alabar.org will have the complete brochure online as well as links to the various informational sites listed. The brochure may be downloaded for reproduction purposes. Individual copies of the printed brochure are available upon request by calling 800-354-6154, extension 134.
