Alabama State Bar Issues New Consumer Pamphlet About Bankruptcy; Explains What You Need To Know

Montgomery, Alabama, August 19, 2010 – A new informational pamphlet titled, "Bankruptcy" is available for consumers from the Alabama State Bar. This material, which has been prepared by various ASB entities, provides the public with basic information about specific areas of Alabama law.

The bankruptcy pamphlet was written by Huntsville attorney G. John Dezenberg, Jr., as a public service, to answer certain basic questions about the bankruptcy process.

State Bar President Alyce M. Spruell of Northport (Spruell & Powell LLC) said, "The perfect storm of a recession, home foreclosures, and high unemployment, coupled with a surge in bankruptcy filings, has left thousands of Alabama families vulnerable to the loss of their assets and savings. This pamphlet represents the bar's continuing efforts to keep the public informed and educated about their rights and the remedies available to them."

Spruell said business law teachers will find this booklet especially helpful if used as part of an overall law-related education curriculum. Law-related education fosters knowledge, skills, and values that students need to function effectively in our democratic society based on the rule of law.

Single copies are available by sending a stamped, self-addressed envelope with the word "Bankruptcy" on the front to: Alabama State Bar, P.O. Box 671, Montgomery AL 36101, or consumers may download a copy as a PDF at the bar's website: http://www.alabar.org/brochures.

Other titles in the series include: Worried About Foreclosure?; Arbitration Agreements; Complaints Against Alabama Lawyers; Consumer Finance or Buying on Time; Last Will and Testament; Law as a Career; Lawyers and Legal Fees; Legal Aspects of Divorce, Mediation.

The 16,000-member Alabama State Bar is dedicated to promoting the professional responsibility, competence and satisfaction of its members, improving the administration of justice, and increasing public understanding and respect for the law.
