Michael graduated cum laude from the University of Alabama School of Law in 1999 and cum laude from the University of Alabama in 1996. Michael is an equity partner at Christian and Small and he represents defendants in mass tort, catastrophic personal injury, and construction cases, and plaintiffs in land use litigation. He has tried cases to a jury in six counties, handled oral argument before the Alabama Supreme Court, and tried two jury cases for different plaintiffs resulting in multi-million dollar jury verdicts.
Michael was a member of the Executive Committee of the Young Lawyers Section of the Birmingham Bar for seven years. For almost a decade he served in several national leadership positions within the Young Lawyers Division of the American Bar Association and is currently a lifetime fellow of the ABA Young Lawyers Division for his continued and substantial service to the division. He is also active in the ABA’s Tort, Trial and Insurance Practice Section (“TIPS”) which has over 25,000 members. He was selected to participate in its Leadership Academy in 2008-2009, was selected as TIPS NOW Fellow, 2009-2010, was Vice-Chair (Programming) of the Trial Techniques Committee in 2012, and currently he is Chair of the Task Force on Outreach to Young Lawyers (2012-2014). The Alabama Super Lawyers Magazine selected him as a Rising Star in 2010 and 2012, and he was selected as an Alabama Super Lawyer in civil litigation defense in 2013. He was selected for Birmingham’s Business Journal’s “Top 40 Under 40” professionals in 2008, and was also selected as a Fellow of the Leadership Counsel on Legal Diversity. Michael has served on the executive committee of Christian Small and is currently a hiring partner. He is a member of the Cathedral of St. Paul and on the Junior Board of Directors for Holy Family Cristo Rey High School.
