Notice of and Opportunity for Comment on Amendments to the Rules of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit
Pursuant to 28 U.S.C. § 2071(b), notice and opportunity for comment is hereby given of proposed amendments to the Rules of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.
The proposed amendments were available on and after August 2, 2010 from www.ca11.uscourts.gov or by contacting the Office of the Clerk, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, 56 Forsyth St., N.W., Atlanta 30303, (404) 335-6100. Comments on the proposed amendments may be submitted to the Clerk at the above address by August 31, 2010.
Public Notice for Reappointment of Incumbent Magistrate Judge
The current term of office of United States Magistrate Judge Charles S. Coody is due to expire April 30, 2011. The United States District Court is required by law to establish a panel of citizens to consider the reappointment of the magistrate judge to a new eight-year term.
The duties of a magistrate judge position include the following: (1) conduct of most preliminary proceedings in criminal cases; (2) trial and disposition of misdemeanor cases; (3) conduct of various pretrial matters and evidentiary proceedings on delegation from judges of the district court; (4) trial and disposition of civil cases upon consent of the litigants; and (5) examination and recommendation to the judges of the district court in regard to prisoner petitions and claims for Social Security benefits.
Comments from members of the bar and the public are invited as to whether the incumbent magistrate judge should be recommended by the panel for reappointment by the court and should be directed to:
