If You’ve Ever Wanted to Attend ABA TECHSHOW, This Is the Year!

Has the tanking economy got you down? Get huge savings on a year's worth of CLE and learn to better use the technology you already have to improve the delivery of client services, while boosting your bottom line, by attending ABA TECHSHOW.

Now in its 23rd year, ABA TECHSHOW (April 2-4 at the Hilton Chicago) is a three-day conference that offers more than 50 legal technology educational programs and training sessions in 15 topical tracks. And Alabama lawyers can receive big discounts.

Pricing and registration information

If you register before February 28th, you will receive a $200 discount, which can be combined with the Alabama State Bar member discount of $150, for a total of $350 in discounts. Or, organize your own group and reduce the registration fee to as little as $399 per person by taking advantage of the Group Super Pass. Up to ten people may attend on one Super Pass. The only catch is that you have to organize your own group and send in one registration fee with the names and addresses of everyone in your group, along with one check or credit card number. Of interest to solo and small-firm lawyers

New tracks this year include Paperless Practice, E-Discovery Boot Camp, Tech for Client Development, Tech for Finance, A Day in the (Techno) Life, Creating a Virtual Firm, and the Internet, to name just a few. There's also a special Solo/Small Firm Day, with two concurrent tracks planned especially for the practitioners in smaller firms. Sessions on these tracks include everything from small case e-discovery to how to avoid ethical snares while using technology and free and cheap Internet research resources to how to deal effectively with the flood of e-mail that never stops coming. For a complete schedule, including session titles, descriptions and speakers, click here: http://www.abanet.org/techshow/sessions/index.shtml.

ABA TECHSHOW also features a two-day expo where lawyers can learn about the latest products and services from more than 100 companies that provide hardware, software and technology services to attorneys and law firms.

The five stages of law practice evolution

This year's keynote speaker is renowned legal thinker and writer Professor Richard Susskind, author of The End of Lawyers? Rethinking the Nature of Legal Services.

His presentation will explore the future of legal services and law as a business, illustrating the five stages through which legal service is evolving and explaining the likely impact of commoditization and information technology (especially "disruptive legal technologies") on the legal profession. If you are interested in learning about the main challenges facing all practicing lawyers in the 21st century, you can't afford to miss this presentation. And, an Alabama lawyer–Laura Calloway, director of the state bar's Practice Management Assistance Program–is serving as chair of the Planning Board for this year's event. She'd love to see you there!
