Notice For Reappointment Of U. S. Magistrate Judge

The current term of the office of U. S. Magistrate Judge John H. England III is due to expire June 17, 2021. The U.S. District Court is required by law to establish a panel of citizens to consider the reappointment of the magistrate judge to a new eight-year term. A full public notice for the magistrate judge reappointment can be found here. Comments from members of the bar and the public are invited as to whether the incumbent magistrate judges should be recommended by the panel for reappointment by the court and should be directed to Sharon Harris, Clerk of Court, 1729 5th Ave. N, Birmingham, AL 35203. Comments must be received by December 18, 2020.

Mediation Week Free CLE Series (October 19-23)
 
Each year during the third week of October the American Bar Association observes “Mediation Week.”  This year the Alabama State Bar Section on Dispute Resolution and the Alabama Center for Dispute Resolution are sponsoring several free CLE events to highlight the many ways alternative dispute resolution can make an impact on our judicial system.  We are pleased to note that Mediation Week occurs in October when we also celebrate Pro Bono Month at the Alabama State Bar. 
 
Each of the events have been approved for one hour of MCLE credit by the Alabama State Bar. Please register by October 15, 2020.

Economic Impact Study Underway
 
The Alabama State Bar has commissioned an economic impact study from the University of Alabama. One person at your firm may have received an email questionnaire requesting information needed to complete the study. We encourage you to take part so that the results accurately show the tremendous impact the legal profession has on the state of Alabama. The survey will also collect information about pro bono hours donated by Alabama lawyers as well as the concerns and challenges for lawyers related to the COVID-19 pandemic. The individual and financial data collected by the University of Alabama will remain confidential and will not be shared with the bar. We will receive a summarized report that will not include firm information.
