Attorney Volunteers Needed for Law Day 2021 | Apr. 30

The Alabama State Bar Lawyer in Every Classroom Committee will be providing lawyers to visit middle school classrooms (6th-8th grades) in-person or virtually Friday, Apr. 30, 2021, to teach students about this year's ABA Law Day theme, "Advancing the Rule of Law Now." Lawyers will be provided lesson plans and resources on the theme that they can use for the class. 

If you would like to teach a class in your area, click here and fill out the Attorney Volunteer Form by this Friday. (We currently have a need for more lawyers to sign-up from the following counties: Autauga, Chilton, Montgomery, and Tuscaloosa.)
 

Birmingham Bar Job Opening

The Birmingham Bar Association has a vacancy in the position of “Lawyer Referral Service and Front Office Manager” and is now accepting applications to fill that role. The Board of Bar Commissioners of the Alabama State Bar will receive nominations for the William D.”Bill” Scruggs, Jr. Service to the Bar Award, J. Anthony “Tony” McLain Professionalism Award and Judicial Award of Merit through Mar. 15.

Georgia-Alabama Chapter of the AILA hosts virtual conference

The Georgia-Alabama Chapter of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) Conference Committee will hold the AILA GA/AL and Immigration Section of the State Bar of Georgia's virtual conference, "Keeping Up: Immigration Practice During the Transition,"  on Thursday,  Mar. 25, 2021, from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. CST. The topics covered will be local and national updates, ethics and technology, professionalism, and updates on federal litigation. Notice For Appointment of A New U. S. Magistrate Judge

The Judicial Conference of the United States has authorized the appointment of a fulltime U.S. Magistrate Judge for the Northern District of Alabama in Birmingham. The current annual salary of the position is $201,112. The term of office is eight years. A full public notice and the application forms for the magistrate judge position are available on the court’s websiteApplications must be received by Mar. 19, 2021.
