DESCRIPTION:March 12\, 2024 from 12 to 1 p.m.\nRegister here \nDr. Megan Hays is an associate professor and licensed clinical psychologist in the department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) at the UAB Heersink School of Medicine. Dr. Hays received her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of South Florida and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in rehabilitation psychology in the UAB Heersink School of Medicine Department of PM&R. She is board certified in the specialty of rehabilitation psychology by the American Board of Professional Psychology and is a fellow of the American Association for Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation. She also serves on the board of directors for the American Board of Rehabilitation Psychology and the American Association for Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation. In addition to Dr. Hays’ clinical practice – which involves the psychological assessment and treatment of adults with a wide range of medical trauma – she serves as the Director of Education for the UAB Medicine Office of Wellness. In this role she supports the UAB Medicine community by providing a variety of wellness services and developing wellness programming and resources for employees. Dr. Hays received the UAB Dean’s Excellence Award in Service for her work focused on the wellbeing of healthcare workers. \nLearning Objectives:  \n\nIdentify the multilevel factors that contribute to burnout and distress in lawyers.\nUnderstand signs of burnout and distress in yourself as well as colleagues.\nLearn evidence-based strategies for managing stress and burnout related to the workplace to improve overall well-being.\nExplore practical tips for finding joy in your job again while working in a helping profession during challenging times.\n\n  \n  \n

His specialties include Christian discipleship counseling\, addiction/substance use\, marriage/couples\, severe/persistent mental illness\, corrections\, family systems\, depression\, anxiety\, and complex trauma-informed care. Founder of the non-profit\, Kids Who Care\, Inc.\, she has over 20 years of experience in advocacy and leadership. Before pursuing medicine\, Ali studied the practice of yoga in India for over three years. She has lead yoga classes all over the world\, including studios such as Ashtanga Yoga New York and various outreach organizations. Ali is currently an Orthopaedic Surgery resident physician at Johns Hopkins Hospital. She previously held a faculty position at NYU in the Biomolecular Engineering department and remains a premed advisor. Her dissertation and research focus for her PhD in Neural and Behavioral Sciences focuses on epigenetics\, and in particular\, changes in gene expression in response to trauma and PTSD. Ali focuses on integrating her yoga practice and instruction into her current work by leading workshops on trauma informed yoga therapy. She has developed clinical research projects that incorporate the practice of yoga and meditation for back pain. She also wrote and co-taught the successful online Coursera course on the physiological benefits of yoga. Driven by the endless abundance of past experience and future opportunities\, Ali blends her love of science\, medicine\, and yoga.
