The Alabama State Bar states the bar is committed to advance the principles of racial, ethic, gender, age and geographic diversity in the profession.  Three strategies have been developed (1) Promote racial ethnic, gender, age and geographic diversity among all programs and components of the Bar, including leadership, staffing and composition of committees, sections, and bar leaders. (2) Promote the continuation of diversity principles in law school admissions. (3) Promote opportunities for women and minorities in the legal profession.

The Committee can also be guided by the following general parameters:

  • Co-ordinate with other entities within and outside of the association to increase educational, professional, and associational opportunities for women and minorities and evaluate the success of these opportunities
  • Using the resources of the American Bar Association review model diversity programs offered by other bar associations for adaptation in Alabama, or review of any published studies
  • Coordinate the committee’s efforts with the Young Lawyers Section, The Women’s Section the Alabama Lawyers Association, and local minority bar associations and other groups as appropriate and desirable
  • Study further by survey or otherwise the challenges faced by minority lawyers and women in Alabama.
  • Encourage greater minority participation in the organized bar both at the state and local level.

The Alabama State Bar, through its designated staff liaison, will assist the committee in carrying out its purposes.
