Purpose & Scope

The newly created task force shall investigate reasons why the membership of the Alabama State Bar is not participating actively in the election process.

Specifically, the task force shall determine (a) what are the reasons for this disengagement (is it logistical, i.e., electronic vs. paper) or is the issue a broader one?

The task force shall make written recommendations for specific ways the Alabama State Bar can respond to the electorate in a way that engages our members in the voting process each year.

Among its duties, the task force shall review the demographics voting practice in Alabama over the last decade. This task force shall take advantage of all resources available to it through the Alabama State Bar, the American Bar Association, the National Association of Bar Executives and the National Conference of Bar Presidents.

The task force shall determine, as appropriate, the voting practices which exist in other bar associations, and if so, review those practices to determine it any such practices can be duplicated in Alabama.

The task force shall meet at the call of the Co-Chairs or either Co-Chair.

The Alabama State Bar, through its designated staff liaison, will assist the task force in carrying out its purposes.
