Purpose & Scope

The primary task of the Foster Care Task Force is to attempt to implement throughout the state of Alabama a program that has proven successful in Lawrence and St. Clair Counties- i.e., to provide age-appropriate luggage with suitable personal items and “luxuries” for each foster child in every Alabama county.  The committee may also determine other ways Alabama lawyers can help the foster children in the state of Alabama.

Within 60 days, the task force shall submit an initial written report to the president outlining its plan of action during this year to carry out the purpose and scope. No interim reports are required. In its discretion, the task force may submit updates to the president and the executive committee by email or video links.

No later than May 1, 2017, the task force shall determine if it will recommend the task force be a permanent standing committee of the bar or remain as a task force for another year.

The task force shall elect from its membership a secretary who shall be responsible for a written record of all its actions. The secretary shall keep minutes of all meetings of the task force and a copy of the original shall be filed with the department of external relations after each meeting or conference, upon requests.

The task force shall meet at the call of the chair/co-chair. The Alabama State Bar, through its designated staff liaison, will assist the task force in carrying out its purpose.
