Purpose & Scope

The task force will study a variety of issues relevant to the future of the legal profession in Alabama.  In connection with that effort, the Task Force will evaluate the recommendations in the American Bar Association’s 2016 Report on the Future of Legal Services in the United States, including but not limited to the recommendations concerning nontraditional legal service providers and technology in the profession.

The task force will also regularly and periodically review the long range strategic plan of the Alabama State Bar over the course of this year to insure that the purposes set forth in that plan are being considered by the task force. The task force will make appropriate adjustments in the scope of its work as necessary as a result of said review of the strategic plan. The task force will collaborate with the Long Range Planning Task Force as appropriate to ensure that the strategic plan remains consistent with the issues relevant to the future of the legal profession in Alabama.

Within 60 days, the Task Force shall submit an initial written report to the President outlining its plan of action during this year to carry out the purpose and scope.  The task force shall elect from its membership a secretary who shall be responsible for a written record of all its actions.  The secretary shall keep minutes of all meetings of the task force and a copy of the original of the minutes shall be filed with the Department of External Affairs after each meeting or conference upon request.

The task force shall meet at the call of the chair.  The Alabama State Bar, through its designated staff liaison, will assist the task force in carrying out its purpose.
