Attorney - Alabama Department of Labor

The Alabama Department of Labor (ADOL) is looking to (quickly) add two experienced attorneys to our Legal team, one in Montgomery and one in Birmingham.

ADOL is the State agency responsible for administering and regulating a number of laws and programs for Alabama, including: Unemployment Compensation, Employment Services (including Career Centers and job fairs throughout the State), Workers’ Compensation, Abandoned Mine Land Reclamation, Mine Safety, Child Labor, Elevator Safety, Boiler Safety, State Monitor Advocate for the Migrant Seasonal Farm Worker Program, and Labor Market Information.

We will be hiring from the State Personnel register, from either the Attorney 1, 2, or 3 registers. ADOL is seeking attorneys with experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Litigation
  • Labor and Employment law and related issues
  • HR and Personnel issues
  • Unemployment law and related issues
  • Drafting of contracts, preferably with knowledge of and experience in state contract and procurement processes
  • Mining and reclamation law and industry experience
  • Workers’ Compensation
  • Tax law and administration
  • Legal Compliance with Statutes, Regulations, and Executive Orders

Experience in private practice is a plus as is ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
