Attorney with Disability Seeks Work

My name is Jimmy Ray Earley Jr. I am a recent graduate of the Birmingham School of Law, and I have acquired my Alabama State Bar license on April 17th, 2020, which is in good standing. I am currently seeking employment as an attorney with a law firm so that I can get practical experience on matters of the law, gain wisdom from experienced attorneys on staff, and grow as an effective lawyer to help the community. The majority of my career has been in retail, customer service, and call center work. Though I have done legal research and writing throughout my time at BSL, I know that is not sufficient experience. I have extensive, personal experience in legal research. For example, I have researched various areas of law ranging from, but not limited to, tort law, criminal law, bankruptcy, disability law, and coronavirus relief aids for individuals and businesses, for my own understanding.

I am visually disabled from a condition called Choroideremia, which has left me with tunnel vision, night blindness, and light sensitivity. I compensate this by using assistive technology, such as use of a CCTV and ZoomText software program, to do legal work. My visual disability has led me to change jobs in the past, from retail to call center work. Becoming an attorney is meant to provide me with the opportunity to find gainful employment, despite my visual disability, in a profession that I understand and believe that I can adequately and competently pursue.

I currently work part-time and receive SSDI benefits. I am looking for full-time employment, with an annual salary of $40,000-$60,000 range. I am also willing to relocate to any jurisdiction within Alabama.

Despite my visual disability and lack of experience, I am eager to start my career as an attorney. I know that, given my strong determination, relentless work ethic, and narrow focus, I will become an invaluable asset to your firm. Given the chance, I know that I can prove to you, as well as to myself, that I have what it takes to succeed.
