Chief Assistant City Attorney - Criminal Division

The City of Mobile’s Legal Department is accepting applications from an experienced litigator to fill the position of Chief Assistant City Attorney of the Criminal Division of the City of Mobile Legal Department. Assistant City Attorneys assigned to the Criminal Division prosecute state misdemeanors and violations, as well as municipal misdemeanors and ordinance violations. In addition to prosecution, the Chief Assistant City Attorney will oversee and supervise all City prosecutors and their paralegals and support staff, which includes handling personnel matters, maintaining prosecutors’ schedules (office/court); overseeing municipal appeals in Circuit Court; serving as a conduit between the Legal Department, the Municipal Clerks office, and the Mobile Police Department; tracking convictions, drafting local ordinances, handling constitutional challenges, and developing and implementing policies that effectuate the goals of the Mayor and Administration.
Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must possess a J.D. degree, be an active member of the bar (Alabama), have at least three years post-JD experience in the legal field, possess superior leadership and supervisory skills, outstanding oral and written communication skills, as well as strong interpersonal skills, exhibit good judgment and function with minimal guidance in a highly demanding environment.

Salary Range: $90,000 to $100,000
