Women's Suffrage Centennial Celebration Events Begin This Week

The Alabama State Bar is in collaboration with numerous organizations throughout the state, including the Dept. of Archives and History, to mark the 100-year anniversary of Congress's ratification of the 19th Amendment. This Friday, Jan. 17, Vulcan Park and Museum will open “Right or Privilege? "Alabama Women and the Vote." Watch President Christy Crow and Allison Skinner, co-chair of the 19th Amendment Centennial Celebration Task Force, discuss the celebrate plans for 2020 and how you can get involved here.

Deadline Extended for Magistrate Judge Vacancy

The application deadline to submit an application to fill the Magistrate Judge vacancy on the United States District Court for the Middle District of Alabama in Montgomery has been extended to Jan. 31. This position will be available to be filled on Aug. 1, and the appointment is for a full eight-year term. Application forms may be obtained on the U.S. District Court’s website.  

Alabama State Bar Seeks Applicants for Paralegal/Investigator in the Office of General Counsel

The ASB Office of General Counsel has an open position for a paralegal/investigator to support the day-to-day operations of the Disciplinary Division of the Office of General Counsel. The work includes the handling of possible disciplinary and civil matters involving ASB members. The deadline for applications is Feb. 28, although the position may be filled prior to that date if a candidate meets the requisite qualifications. Cordell Hull Speakers Forum Featuring ABA President Judy Perry Martinez

Cumberland School of Law will host its annual Cordell Hull Speakers Forum on Apr. 8, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Memory Leake Robinson Hall. Judy Perry Martinez, president of the American Bar Association (ABA), is the keynote speaker. Martinez will discuss the ABA and its work to promote equal justice, diversity and inclusion in the legal profession and justice system, and the rule of law. Cumberland alumni, students, faculty, staff and members of the Birmingham and Alabama legal communities are invited to attend.

Midyear Meeting Kicks off Next Week

The Midyear Meeting is next week, Jan. 22-23, at The Lodge at Gulf State Park in Gulf Shores. Get all your 2020 CLE credits in January, enjoy a night on Alabama's Gulf Coast and network with more than 100 judges from across the state. For more information or to register, click here.

Montgomery County Bar's Inaugural Race Judicata 5K/10K 

Put your New Year's resolutions to the test and join the Montgomery County Bar Association for its inaugural Race Judicata 5K/10K and 1-mile fun run on Saturday, Feb. 29, starting at 8 a.m. at First Baptist Church in downtown Montgomery. Proceeds benefit the Montgomery Volunteer Lawyers Program and Mercy House.

Birmingham Bar 2020 Membership Forum

For the 24th year, the Birmingham Bar Association will hold an annual day-long conference filled with inspiring speakers, networking, good food and valuable CLE programming. This year's forum will be on Friday, Mar. 6, at the Sheraton in downtown Birmingham. The 2019 Forum sold out, so be sure to mark your calendar and be on the lookout for registration information soon.
