Wellness Month is Here!
All month long, the Alabama State Bar will focus on providing tools to create healthy habits and environments, which are critical for lawyer wellness. This week’s wellness tips, compiled by the Quality of Life, Health and Wellness Task Force, provide advice for dealing with the new challenges associated with the Coronavirus. Fears about COVID-19 can take an emotional toll, but you’re not powerless. These tips can help you get through this stressful time.
Register for a Free, Online Wellness CLE
As part of May's Wellness Month offerings, a free, online CLE course will be offered three different days and times through Zoom. Attendees will receive one hour of CLE credit, including 1.0 hour of ethics. The presentation on Attorney Wellness and Professional Responsibility will be given by Christy Coan, Susan Han and Emily Hornsby. You should only register for one!
Another facet of Wellness Month is a Wellness Challenge between individual attorneys, firms and local bars. View the wellness challenge calendar here, and start planning how you can take part in the small, daily wellness activities.
Reminder: Each Monday in May, Emily Hornsby, Co-Chair of the Task Force and the Chair of the Alabama Chapter of the Mindfulness in Law Society, will be leading a free 30-minute meditation on Zoom from 5:00 to 5:30 p.m. If you would like the Zoom information to join, click here.

Online District Court Practice CLE Offerings
You can get up to six CLE hours of District Court Practice through three two-hour Zoom sessions. The local bars will provide local speakers, and you will be able to see them and their PowerPoint presentations on your computer screen or similar device.
You can choose one, two or all three of the two-hour online CLE sessions. Thus, you can get yourself six hours of credit if you watch all three sessions. It is suggested, but not required, that you pick sessions for the location nearest you so that you will hear comments from speakers and judges nearest you.

ICYMI: Supreme Court Extends Suspension of In-Person Proceedings Until May 15
Last week, the Supreme Court of Alabama issued an order extending all its orders and deadlines concerning the suspension of in-person proceedings through May 15. The order also authorized non-vulnerable courts employees to come to work to prepare for in-person proceedings. Judges are still encouraged to use virtual hearings to limit in-person contact. Jury trials also remain suspended, and no jury summons should be issued until July 1, 2020. View the order here.

ICYMI: Alabama State Bar Law Day Virtual Celebration
The Alabama State Bar's Lawyers in the Classroom Committee originally planned for lawyers to teach a class in our public schools on Law Day, but were not able to move forward with those plans due to COVID-19. However, the Alabama State Bar, Judge Frank M. Johnson, Jr. Institute, and Alabama Department of Archives assembled some online resources for members of our community to learn more about this year’s Law Day theme: The 100th Anniversary of the 19th Amendment. Please view this flyer and help us distribute it to your local bars, teachers, parents and students.
