Proposed Changes to Rule 7 Series (Lawyer Advertising)

The Disciplinary Rules and Enforcement Committee has developed recommended changes to Rules 7.1, 7.2 and 7.3 of the Alabama Rules of Professional Conduct which outline lawyer advertising rules. Alabama State Bar members are invited to view and submit comments through June 30, 2020, on the proposed changes before they're submitted to the Supreme Court of Alabama. Alabama State Bar Offers Cyber Liability Insurance Discounts 

Alabama State Bar members now have access to cyber liability insurance from Insurance Specialists, Inc. (ISI). Bar members are able to apply for coverage by completing a simple application.

  • No aggregate limit on master policy

  • Coverage territory is worldwide

  • Eligibility: U.S. businesses with less than $50,000,000 in annual revenue

Legislature Submits Budgets to Gov.; Moves Toward Finish Line

After leaving for Spring Break in the wake of COVID-19, the Alabama Legislature reconvened on May 4 to pass the budgets and handle other essential items. Much was left on the table, and a special session will most likely be required to finish addressing some pressing matters such as prison reform.

July 2020 Alabama Bar Exam Update

On Friday, the Supreme Court of Alabama entered an Order that the Alabama State Bar follow public health restrictions and take necessary precautions during the administration of the July 2020 Alabama Bar Exam on July 28-29, 2020. The Order also grants certain exceptions to the Rules Governing Admission to the Alabama State Bar and the Alabama Rule for Legal Internship by Law Students. These exceptions are available only to those individuals who applied for the July 2020 Alabama bar exam by the deadlines set forth in the Rules.

Register for a Free, Online Wellness CLE

As part of May's Wellness Month offerings, a free, online CLE course will be offered three different days and times through Zoom. Attendees will receive one hour of CLE credit, including 1.0 hour of ethics. The presentation on Attorney Wellness and Professional Responsibility will be given by Christy Coan, Susan Han and Emily Hornsby. You should only register for one, and there are two more remaining!

Another facet of Wellness Month is a Wellness Challenge between individual attorneys, firms and local bars. View the wellness challenge calendar here to take part in the small, daily wellness activities.
