Still Time to Register for the Virtual Annual Meeting!

We're now a week and a half away from the 2020 Virtual Annual Meeting! Even though we can’t meet in person, we’re embracing technology and the ability to bring nationally acclaimed speakers to you!

We’ll present 9+ hours of live CLE programming on Zoom, including presentations from:

  • Jan Hargrave: The nation’s leading body language expert

  • Lilly Ledbetter: Equal Pay Activist

  • Shon Hopwood: Convicted Felon to Georgetown Law Professor and Criminal Reform Advocate

  • Alabama Head Football Coach Nick Saban

  • Auburn Men’s Basketball Head Coach Bruce Pearl

  • SEC Sportscaster Lauren Sisler, who lost both parents to opioid overdoses

  • Robert Bilott, who will present on Dark Waters, the story behind the environmental legal battle exposing corporate cover up

Because each virtual session will be presented live, attendees will receive CLE credit as if you were attending in-person. You can register and view the full agenda here. Your registration fee covers all of Thursday's programming; Friday's Grand Convocation is free to attend!

Please note: We will send all registered attendees instructions for logging onto the Annual Meeting on Wednesday, June 24.

Fastcase Is Now Available to ASB Members!

As of this morning, ASB members have access to the Fastcase library on our website, which includes state and federal caselaw, as well as statutes and regulations at both the state and federal levels. The login process for Fastcase will be identical to the login process for Casemaker. Simply access your attorney profile on the ASB website. Once on your dashboard, look to the left-hand side of the screen and locate the Fastcase tab. Click on the “Go to Fastcase” link. This will redirect you to the Fastcase page. The first time you access Fastcase, you will have to accept the End User Agreement. After accepting, you will click on the link titled “Go to Fastcase.”

We have put together a FAQ page to help you in the transition from Casemaker to Fastcase. You can read that by clicking here

Final Legislative Report

After one of the most unusual legislative sessions in history, you will find the link to the official summary of legislation passed and enacted provided by the Legislative Services Agency here. When the Alabama Legislature officially adjourned on May 18, 2020, there had been 508 bills introduced in the Alabama House of Representatives and 348 bills introduced in the Senate, bringing the total introduction of bills during the 2020 session to 856. Of those, 151 were ultimately signed by Gov. Ivey. As of this time, despite much speculation, no special session is currently scheduled. The 2021 Legislative Session of the Alabama Legislature will convene in February. There will be highlights of certain legislation as always in your upcoming Alabama Lawyer.
