Alabama State Bar Activates Young Lawyers Section for Disaster Legal Assist
MONTGOMERY – The Alabama State Bar in coordination with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the American Bar Association on Tuesday announced the activation of the Young Lawyers Section of the bar to provide free legal assistance to low-income individuals in the four counties affected by last week’s storms in Alabama.
“Our Young Lawyers Section is ready to assist those impacted by the recent severe weather in our state in any way we can, with any legal issue that may arise,” said Chris Waller, president of the Alabama Young Lawyers Section.
The four counties impacted by the April 28 and 29 storms include Baldwin, Jefferson, Lee and Limestone. Individuals in those counties who are in need of legal assistance should contact the coordinating program in their area:
- Jefferson and Lee counties – Alabama State Bar Volunteer Lawyers Program at 1-888-857-8571
- Limestone County – Madison County Volunteer Lawyers Program at 256-539-2275
- Baldwin County – South Alabama Volunteer Lawyers Program at 1-855-997-2857
The volunteer lawyers programs will match the affected individual with an Alabama State Bar Young Lawyers Section volunteer attorney who can answer questions and assist with filing insurance claims.
