STATE BAR RELEASES SECOND YEAR OF "POINT OF LAW" RADIO SERIES; PROGRAM PROVIDES BASIC LEGAL INFORMATION FOR CONSUMERS

Montgomery, Alabama, February 21, 2014 – The state bar has launched its second year-long radio campaign known as, “Point of Law.” This series is composed of 30-second and 60-second radio messages that provide basic legal information (not advice) for consumers.

State Bar President Anthony A. Joseph of Birmingham (Maynard Cooper & Gale PC) said, “Good citizenship requires everyone to have at least a basic knowledge of the law and this radio series is part of the state bar’s efforts to improve public understanding of the law and the legal system. The information in “Point of Law” only covers the high points; it’s not meant to be comprehensive.”

Joseph said the law is constantly evolving and, as such, the law today may be different tomorrow. Listeners should contact a lawyer when they are faced with a real-life legal problem.

The spots are being distributed through the 300 member stations of the Alabama Broadcasters Association who have agreed to air this material during morning and afternoon drive time.

“Point of Law” joins a number of other resources provided by the bar for the public – from information about free civil legal assistance for the poor and disadvantaged provided through the  Volunteer Lawyers Program to a library of bi-lingual public information brochures available for downloading at the bar’s website.

The 17,600-member Alabama State Bar is dedicated to promoting the professional responsibility, competence and satisfaction of its members, improving the administration of justice and increasing public understanding of and respect for the law.
