9 events,Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice shall host a lunch for seven members of the bar who enroll, during Pro Bono Month, as new members in one the the state’s Volunteer Lawyers Programs. Attendees will be selected at random. The luncheon will be held at the Heflin-Torbert Judicial Building. Alabama’s five law schools have joined together to encourage their students to take the Pro Bono Pledge during Pro Bono Month 2019. He encourages all attorneys to abide by both the letter and spirit of Rule 6.1 by providing pro bono service and supporting organizations that provide legal services to person of limited means.

Helping homeless clients obtain identification so they can work and helping with other legal needs is a priority of Volunteer Lawyers Birmingham.

Volunteer Lawyers Birmingham staffs a neighborhood-based help desk to assist low income people in the Woodlawn community with legal issues. This Help Desk is on the 1st Tuesday of the month from 8:30am – 11:00am at the Woodlawn Foundation, 5529 1st Avenue South, Birmingham, AL 35212. Members of the public can meet with South Alabama Volunteer Lawyers program staff at Prodisee Pantry Food Bank to apply for services. This event is held each Tuesday in the month of October. |
