ASB Position Opening: Financial Assistant

The Alabama State Bar (ASB) is looking for a responsible financial assistant to join our finance team. The successful candidate will perform a range of basic day-to day administrative and accounting tasks to support the finance department and the agency.

Essential Functions

    • Manage clerical functions related to travel. Obtain pre-approval of travel requests; investigate/resolve travel questions and inquiries; prepare and calculate travel forms to ensure all claims are accurate and comply with applicable travel policies and procedures.
    • Prepare and deposit cash receipts via the online remote banking deposit system
    • Perform data entry of cash receipts and payment transactions into business systems operated by the ASB and the State of Alabama.
    • Assist with the preparation and distribution of accounts payable checks.
    • Reconcile select account balances to verify cash receipts have been properly recorded.
    • Coordinate fund transfers between multiple bank accounts.
    • Perform monthly bank reconciliations of select bank accounts.
    • Assist with the compilation of financial documents as requested by external auditors and state examiners.

Primary Qualifications

  • High school diploma; Associate degree in business or accounting preferred, with three to five years of clerical accounting experience
  • Comprehensive understanding of accounting practices and procedures with strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Personal computer experience is essential, with experience in accounting software and windows-based software applications; must be proficient in excel
  • Excellent data processing skills and meticulous attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills required
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
