Life is a Beach!

Today is a short day at the office for those of us who staff the Alabama State Bar Annual Meeting & Legal Expo. By about 1:00 p.m., most of us will be on our way to the Hilton in Sandestin to begin preparations for the meeting, which begins tomorrow with registration opening at noon and a pre-meeting CLE program, Making Your Case with A Better Memory, presented by Paul Mellor of Richmond, Virginia, at 1:30 p.m.
To round out Wednesday night for those arriving then, there will be a Family Poolside Party beginning at 6:30 p.m., followed by a Beach Bonfire, Crab Hunt and Limbo Contest.
The line up of speakers for this year’s meeting is one of the best we’ve ever had.
On Thursday, in addition to two morning plenary sessions, Succeeding in Law Practice: How Can I be More Successful and Content in my Legal Career and Succeeding in Practice: Strategic Planning – Identifying Your Purpose and Reaching Your Goals, each with a panel of all-star Alabama lawyers and jurists, including Chief Justice Sue Bell Cobb, the featured speaker for Thursday’s Bench Bar Luncheon will be Jan Crawford Greenburg, legal correspondent for ABC News.
The highlight of the many social events on Thursday will be the Family Night Coastal Carnival, sponsored by ISI Alabama and Your Legal Pages, and a band party with Freedom’s Off the Record.
Friday’s morning plenary completes the Succeeding in Practice series, with a presentation entitled Professionally Managing Your Personal Finances by Howard Drayton, founder of Crown Financial Ministries of Gainsville, Georgia.
The Kids’ Chance Golf Scramble benefiting the Alabama Law Foundation and the Silent Auction, benefiting the Alabama Lawyer Assistance Foundation and the Janie Shores Scholarship fund of the Women’s Section will be back again, and this year there will also be a family tennis tournament and the Legal Run Around 5K and Fun Run/Walk.
Even if you haven’t yet registered for the meeting, we’d love to have you there, so come on down to Sandestin. This year’s meeting offers a total of 11 CLE credit hours, plus some great fun. We hope to see you there!
